April 2023
In early 2022, New South Wales faced one of its most devastating flood seasons in recorded history. Torrential rains inundated towns like Lismore, Taree, and the Hunter Valley, submerging homes, isolating communities, and displacing thousands. Many residents, still recovering from previous floods, found themselves confronting rising waters once more. This photo series, commissioned by The Sydney Morning Herald, documents the profound human and environmental toll of these events. Through images of submerged streets, rescue operations, and the resilience of affected communities, the series captures a region grappling with the escalating impacts of extreme weather and the urgent need for adaptive responses.
